We need your help!

Animal Friends of Lansdowne (AFL) is not a shelter and does not have a facility in which to house animals. We currently operate as an all-foster organization. As such, our ability to rescue animals is entirely contingent on the number of foster homes we have available at any given time. Simply put: The more foster volunteers we have in our network, the more animals we can rescue with the goal of placing them in adoptive homes.

What does it mean to foster? You need only a clean, safe room in your home, such as a spare bedroom, where a rescued pet can acclimate. Animal Friends of Lansdowne pays for all vet care—testing, shots, microchipping, spay and neuter, plus any other medical care that the animal needs. A safe space, your tender loving care, food, and litter are all that is required. Help can be provided with supplies as well, if needed.

Our lack of a County shelter and options for cats, has left all help for them up to local volunteer groups, and rescues are beyond stretched. Pets, especially cats, are being dumped and abandoned on our streets in record numbers. Many are not spayed or neutered, which means that the population continues to explode. Kitten season as we once knew it is now non-existent. Kittens are being born outside all year long, left to (hopefully) survive the elements.

The rescue’s ability to save both kittens and friendly cats from the streets depends solely on the kindness and commitment of foster families. To put it simply, animals will not be rescued if there is no place for them to go. If you love animals and have ever wanted to help them, this is the most important way to do it. Fostering saves lives, nothing less.

And it is rewarding. Says AFL frequent foster mom, Philitsa Hanson, “Fostering multiplies happiness at least three-fold. The animal who is saved is happy to be off the streets. You feel great joy in helping that animal learn to be a loving house pet. And you get to see the happiness of the family who ultimately adopts that pet.”
